Regardless of what dogs look like, they all have unique personalities. So, you should get to know a few dogs prior to making a decision. Ask the previous owner, the dog shelter or the breeder what the dog is like, and consider whether this will be appropriate for your lifestyle. For instance, an active dog will require increased time outside and exercise.

There are other nuances between breeds that need to be considered also. For example, some dogs are completely bald and some have very long, thick coats whereas others are somewhere in between. A dog with a thick coat may have implications in terms of dog allergies, and will require more grooming.
